MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to protect life and property while minimizing suffering and damage due to fire, medical and environmental emergencies. We are dedicated to protecting the lives and property of the citizens of the City of Monroe through public education, code enforcement and incident management.
FACILITIES
The Central Fire Station is located close to historic downtown. Satellite stations operate on the East and West side of the community with boundaries defined by heavily utilized railroads.
EQUIPMENT
An Engine Company is deployed at each station along with an Ambulance at Central and West side. A 100' Aerial Truck is deployed at the Central Station along with Haz Mat, Confined Space, Water Rescue, Inspection and Command vehicles.
PERSONNEL
The department has 31 career Firefighter Paramedics on staff. The Fire Chief is the department administrator. Three-shifts, consisting of 10 personnel each, operate under the direction of a Shift Commander to perform fire suppression, emergency medical services, confined space rescue, hazardous material response, and extrication at motor vehicle accidents.
ADMINISTRATION
The Fire Chief is responsible for managing and coordinating the Fire Suppression, EMS, Confined Space, Hazardous Materials, Maintenance and Inspection Divisions. He prepares and administers an annual budget and directs the planning, development, and implementation of all department programs. He ensures the latest techniques and methodologies are incorporated to ensure the department provides the finest in public education, code management, and incident response. The Fire Chief assures compliance with Federal, State and local laws, acts as a liaison with other governmental agencies and maintains a safe work environment to provide a safer community for residents and visitors of Monroe.
INSPECTION DIVISION
The Inspection Division encompasses fire suppression, prevention, public education, code inspection, code enforcement, and investigations. The division reviews site plans for new buildings and fire systems. The division has the responsibility to inspect for and enforce adopted fire codes, State and local codes, standards and ordinances that provide for fire safety in public occupancies located within the City of Monroe. The division conducts inspections of high hazard buildings such as schools, both public and private, public assembly occupancies and locations where large loss of life or property could occur. The division works with State agencies in the inspection of local hospitals, nursing homes, adult foster care facilities and above ground storage tank facilities.
The division is responsible for fire investigation activities such as photography, evidence preservation, assisting prosecutors with criminal cases and working with State and Federal agencies. The division is responsible for the creation, administration and evaluation of all public education activities and serves as the liaison with the Building Department.
FIRE SUPPRESSION DIVISION
The primary function of the fire suppression division is to save lives and to protect property. Fire suppression personnel function under the Incident Command System to effectively manage all emergency situations.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES DIVISION
All personnel are cross-trained as Paramedics to provide Emergency Medical Services. These Paramedics deliver the latest Advanced Life Support skills and equipment to the scene to provide the best chance of survival for the citizens we serve. The Monroe Fire Department has 2 ALS transporting units and 2 ALS Paramedic Engines, fully equipped to provide the most up to date pre-hospital emergency care. In house continuing education is provided by on staff EMS educators.
SPECIAL OPERATIONS DIVISION
The Special Operations Division is responsible for Hazardous Materials, Confined Space and Water Rescue incident response and training.
MAINTENANCE DIVISION
The Maintenance Division inspects and maintains fire apparatus, self contained breathing apparatus and assorted necessary equipment. The division oversees annual pump and hose testing, driver/operator certifications, equipment and vehicle maintenance and maintains all records for each.
MUTUAL AID
The Monroe Fire Department provides Mutual Aid assistance to surrounding communities for Emergency Medical Transport Services and Fire Suppression. The department also receives like services in return for incidents within the City.
The Monroe Fire Department provides the highest level of emergency response. Our goal is to make our community a safer place for living, working and visiting.
